Jobs & Working in the U.S.

Looking for work while you study? Start on campus.

For F-1 international students maintaining full-time status, PFW says on-campus employment is generally allowed for up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session, with full-time on-campus work possible during summer. Students need to follow PFW’s approval process before starting work.

Good Places to Start:

• Handshake — PFW uses Handshake to post on-campus jobs, internships, career events, and other opportunities.
• Campus jobs — Look for positions in university departments, dining, student services, housing, and other campus areas.
• Graduate assistantships — Graduate students may qualify for teaching, research, or administrative assistant positions. Purdue University Fort Wayne
• Career Development Center — Get help with résumés, interviews, internships, job searching, and career planning. Purdue University Fort Wayne
• Career Closet — PFW’s Career Closet currently provides professional clothing students can take home for interviews, presentations, and career fairs; current events are held in Walb Student Union.

International students: Before accepting work off campus, talk with the Office of International Education. Off-campus employment such as CPT or OPT has specific eligibility and authorization requirements.
